What Haven't I done for a client?

Today I am driving to a clients vacant home, ( I say client, I haven't actually got them to sign a contract yet) to do some "more" work for them so that we can get the home on the market by tomorrow. It does not look like that will happen though, I didn't make it over there yesterday so I'm not sure what got done if anything. I guess why I even bring this up is because I have always went beyond the call of duty to help clients. It's just what I do, it's who I am. "Serving Christ, through serving others". That's it in a nut shell. But more times than not I not appreciated or even thanked. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday I was over there from morning to night. I took off all the cabinet doors and hinges and painted them, put them back up, painted the walls etc. I can't take all the credit for the walls, the mother & father who are retired helped a lot too, however the "owner" their son and daughter in law did nothing. Nothing but criticize! I'm serious! Wanted all the cabinet doors etc. taken back down and redone. Can you say....EXCUSE ME? You have got to be kidding. I said I would help, "them" not do it all. They are really taking advantage of my time and their parents. I drive 15 miles one-way just to get to the home, this is crazy! I also have to add that the parents where also babysitting the owners two young children as well while we worked. Needless to say, I got my feeling hurt and cried on the drive home. I left without saying anything and took the coward way out and sent an email to my very good friends the retired parents. I just knew I would say something that could hurt someone if I stayed. I needed to cool off. I didn't go back yesterday but I'm planning on going back over today to get my cleaning stuff. From now on, contracts come first! No more "good faith work" until the contract is signed and in hand. Martha Stewart say's: "It's not work, if you love what your doing" and I believe that, just don't be a door mat.
